Friends,
Before I start writing PHALA DEEPIKA, I am to tell that this is only meant for those interested in STUDYING ASTROLOGY and to tell the RESULTS i.e. PREDICTIONS. Others may not find this interesting for reading. PREDICTIVE ASTROLOGY MOSTLY DEPEND ON THE LOGIC APPLIED BY THE ASTROLOGER, and many other factors like UDU DASA , KALACHAKRA DASA, YOGAS , ASHTAKA VARGHAS ETC. Most of the predictions go wrong only because the astrologers predicting do not see all the effects and not because Astrology is not a perfect science. ASTROLOGY IS A VERY PERFECT SCIENCE. I request all experts in this field to pardon me for not writing Sanscrit properly. Although, I have tried my best to translate.
.Regards to one and all. I earnestly request all PUNDITS in this field to bless me.

P.R. RADHAKRISHNAN

ABRIDGED PHALA DEEPIKA
OF
MANTHRESWARA
First MANTHRESWARA prays to the SUN GOD to bless all with unlimited prosperity, good Luck splendor and God’s blessings. “ Then, he prays to Goddess Saraswathy, his GURUS, all the NINE PLANETS, Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva to bestow on him the knowledge of the PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE and then to bestow this benefit to all the ASTROLOGERS to give an easy version of TEACHINGS OF SAGES ATRI, and PARASARA.
Manthreswara asks the astrologers to ascertain firstly the EXACT TIME OF BIRTH, minutely in GHATIKAS AND VIGATIKAS etc. as given below :
60 Tatparas – 1 Para
60 Paras - 1 Vilipta
60 Viliptas - 1 Lipta
60 Liptas - 1 Vighati
60 Vighatis - 1 Ghati
60 Ghatis - 1 Day.
After this he says to find the positions of the planets (LONGITUDE) in RASI or Sign and work out the AMSA ( Degrees), Kala (Minutes) , VIKALA (Seconds ). For the use of learners, I am giving hereunder the TABLES :
60 Vikala or Second in English = 1 Kala ( Minute )
60 Kalas or Minutes “ = 1 Bhage (Degree )
30 Bhagas 0r Degrees “ = 1 RASI OR SIGN
12 RASIS Or Signs “ = 1 BHAGANA OR ZODIAC in English
(Note : zodiac (Greek: ζῳδιακός, zōdiakos) is a circle of twelve 30° divisions of celestial longitude which are centered upon the ecliptic: the apparent path of the Sun across the celestial sphere over the course of the year. The paths of the Moon and visible planets also remain close to the ecliptic, within the belt of the zodiac which extends 8-9° north or south of the ecliptic, as measured in celestial latitude. Historically, these twelve divisions are called signs. Essentially, the zodiac is a celestial coordinate system, or more specifically an ecliptic coordinate system, which takes the ecliptic as the origin of latitude, and the position of the sun at vernal equinox as the origin of longitude. ( From WIKIPEDIA)

The Horoscope is the representation of KALAPURUSHA. The parts of the body beginning with LAGNA (In English Ascendant) is Head (i.e the 1st House LAGNA) , the 2nd House is the Face the 3rd House – the breast, 4th House – The Heart, 5th House – The Stomach, The 6th House- the Waist, The Seventh House – The Groin , the 8th House – the Penis or Vagina, The 9th House – both the thighs , The 10th House – Both the Knees, The 11th House – both the calves and the 12th House – both feet.
The end portion of the following signs are called राशी सन्धि, ராசி ஸந்தி, രാശിസന്ധി, Raasi sandhi. Some learned also apply this term in the end portions of all SIGNS ( MESHA VRISHABHA etc ).
Few Notes : Late Dr. B.V. Raman in his A MANNUAL OF HINDU ASTROLOGY has given the Good and Evil Planets (BENEFIC and MALEFIC planets ). The benefic Planets are GURU ( Jupiter ), SHUKRA ( Venus ), CHANDRA (Moon ) which is fully bright and well associated BUDHA (Mercury).
The MALEFICS are RAVI ( The Sun) , SHANI ( The Saturn ), KUJA ( The Mars ) the badly associated BUDHA ( The Mercury ) and the AMAVASYA day’s CHANDRA ( New Moon ) . The Moon (CHANDRA) is Benefic from the ASHTAMI CHANDRA ( 8th Day of the bright half of the Moon ), and Malefic from the 8th day of the Dark half.
The House which is occupied or aspected benefics ( have strength ) , the part of the body represented by the house will be strong and if represented by Malefic, will be weak. I am giving the BHAVA and HOUSE with the Signification here under for those interested to learn PREDICTIVE ASTROLOGY.
BHAVA HOUSE SIGNIFICATION
1 Thanur Bhaava First House (LAGNA) Built, Body and Appearance
2, Dhana Bhaava Second House from LAGNA Family , Source of death, Property , Vision
3. Braathru Bhaava Third House “ Brothers,Sisters, Intelligence
4. Sukha Bhaava Fourth House “ General Happiness, Mother, Education,
Vehicles

7. Kalathra Bhava Seventh House “ Wife or Husband, Death
8. Ayurbhava Eighth House “ Longivity, Gifts etc.
9. Dharma Bhava Ninth House “ God, Guru, Father Piety, Travel Etc.
10. Karma Bhava Tenth House “ Andima Karma, Occupation, Godly Knowledge
11. Labha Bhava Eleventh House “ Gains
12. Vraya Bhava Twelfth House “ Losses, Moksha.

Now Manthreswara deals with the dwelling places of the 12 RASIS (Zodiacal Signs). According to him Mesha(Aries), Vrishabha(Taurus), Mithuna( Gemini), Kataka(Cancer), Simha(Leo), Kanya(Virho) , Thula(Libra), Vrischika (Scorpio), Dhanus(Sagittarius), Makara(Capricorn ), Kumbha(Aquarius) and Meena(Pisces) dwell inforest, Agricultural land with Water, Bedroom, Chasm with water, Mountain, Land with water and Food Crops, House of a Vaisya, Cavity or hole, Residence of a King, Watery forests, Places frequented with potters or used by them and Water respectively.
This information is required when there are queries regarding theft or missing person etc.
Now Manthrswara deals with the 12 signs and their Lords, which are (1) MESHA ( ARIES ) - Lord: KUJA (Mars), (2)VRISHABHA ( Taurus)- Lord : SHUKRA(Venus), (3) MITHUNA(Gemini) – Lord : BUDHA (Mercury), (4) KATAKA (Cancer) – LORD :CHANDRA (Moon), (5) SIMHA (Leo) – Lord : RAVI(Sun) , (6) KANYA (Virgo) – Lord : BUDHA(Mercury) , (7) THULA ( Libra ) – Lord : SHUKRA (Venus), (8) VRISCHIKA (Scorpio) – Lord : KUJA (Mars), (9) DHANUS (Sagittarius)- Lord : GURU ( Jupiter), (10) MAKARA(Capricon) - : Lord : SANI,MANDAN(Saturn), (11) KUMBHA (Aquarius) – Lord : SANI (Saturn), (12) MEENA ( Pisces) – Lord : GURU (Jupiter).
(Note : From the above you can know that while CHANDRA, and RAVI have only ONE HOUSE other planets have TWO HOUSES.)
Now Manthreswara deals with the Planets and their EXALTATION/DEBILITATION/HIGHEST POINT OF EXALTATION AND LOWEST POINT OF DEBILITATION

PLANET SIGN OF EXALTATION HIGHEST POINT OF EXALTATION OR DEEP EXALTATION
RAVI (The Sun) MESHA (ARIES) MESHA 10th Degree
CHANDRA (Moon) VRISHABHA (Taurus) VRISHABHA 3rd Degree
KUJA (Mars) MAKARA (Capricorn) MAKARA 28th Degree
BUDHA (Mercury) KANYA (Virgo) KANYA 15th Degree
GURU(Jupiter) KATAKA (Cancer) KATAKA 5th Degree
SHUKRA(Venus) MEENA (Pisces) KATAKA 27th Degree
MANDA OR SANI THULA (Libra ) THULA 20th Degree (Saturn)
PLANETS GIVEN ABOVE WHICH ARE 7 IN NUMBER HAVE DEBILITATION AND DEEP DEBILITATION POINTS which are :-
(1) For RAVI, THULA and 10th Degree of Thula respectively
(2) For CHANDRA, VRISCHIKA and 3rd Degree of Vrischika respectively.
(3) For KUJA KATAKA and 28th Degree of Kataka respectively
(4) For BUDHA, MEENA and 15th Degree of Meena respectively
(5) For GURU, MAKARA and 5th Degree of Makara respectively
(6) For SHUKRA, KANYA and 27th Degree of Kanya respectively.
(7) For SANI OR MANDA, Mesha and 20th Degree of Mesha respectively.
In short 7th house from the exaltation pint it is debilitation point
There is a great difference of opinion among the ancient learned in astrology about the EXALTATION AND DEBILITATION OF RAHU AND KETHU. Most probably Manthreswara did not give any opinion on this due to this reason. In SARVATHA CHINTHAMANI (सर्वार्त्थाचिन्तामओणि) ,it is seen the EXALTATION POINT (उच्चं) of राहु(RAAHU) is MITHUNA (GEMINI) and the DEBILITATION POINT (नीचं) is DHANUS (SAGITTARIUS) and that of KETHU the UCHCHA is DHANUS and the NEECHA is MITHUNA ( JUST OPPOSITE), in BRUHAT PARASARA HORA SHAASTRA ( बर्हत्पराशर होरा शास्त्रं ) VRISHABHA (TAURUS) and VRISCHIKA (SCORPIO) are the EXALTATION POINT AND DEBILITATION and vice-versa respectively.
Now Manthreswara teaches MOOLATHRIKONA ( This is the position similar to Exaltation) of the planets from Ravi to Mandan(7 Planets) :
ग्रह क्षेत्र मूलत्रिकोण स्वक्षेत्र
GRAHA KSHETHRA MOOLA THRIKONA OWN KSHETHRA PORTION
(1) RAVI SIMHA 0 Deg, to 20 Deg. 21 to 30 Deg.
(2) CHANDRA VRISHABHA 4 Deg. To 30 Deg. –
(3) KUJA MESHA 0 Deg. To 2 Deg. 13 to 30 Deg.
(4) BUDHA KANYA 16 Deg.To 20 Deg, 21 – 30 Deg.
(5) GURU DHANUS 0 Deg. To 10 Deg. 11 – 30 Deg.
(6) SHUKRA THULA 0 Deg. To 05 Deg. 06 – 30 Deg.
(7) SHANI(MANDAN) KUMBHA 0 Deg. To 20 Deg. 21 – 30 Deg.
Now MANTHRESHWARA says the various signs and their classification as HUMAN, REPTILE,CETIPEDS etc.
HUMAN QUADRUPED CENTIPED WATERY
Mithuna(Gemini) Mesha(Aries) Viischika(Scorpio) Kataka(Cancer)
Kanya(Virgo) Vrishabha(Taurus) Meena(pisces) Makara(Capricorn)
(Later Half only)
Thula (Libra) Simha (Leo)
Dhanus (Sagittarius) Dhanus (Sagittarius)
(First Half Only) (Later half only)
Kumbha (Aquarius)
Now he explains Signs which rise with their back, Signs which rise with both back and front and those who rise with heads.
Signs which rise with their back (प्रिष्टोदया) PRISHTODAYA. :MESHA (Aries), VRISHABHA(Taurus), KATAKA (Cancer), DHANUS (Sagittarius), and MAKARA (Capricorn)
Signs which rise with both front and back ( उभयोदय) UBHAYODAYA : MITHUNA (Gemini) and MEENA (Pisces).
SIGNS RISING BY HEAD (शीर्षोदय) SHEERSHODAYA : SIMHA (Leo) , KANYA (Virgo), THULA (Libra), and VRISCHIKA (Scorpio) and KUMBHA (Aquarius).
After this MANTHRSWARA gives further classifications and indications of the 12 Signs as given below:-
Mesha (Aries) Chara Raasi (Movable), Vrishaba (Taurus) Sthira Raasi (fixed) , Mithuna ( Gemini) Ubhaya Raasi (common Sign) and other 9 Raasis in the same order.
For Mesha DWAARA(entrance ) , Vrishabha it is BAAHIH (Outside) ,Mithuna, it is Garbha (Inside) and for other RAASIS count in the
The above three Raasis and other Raasis are to be treated as DHAATU (Mineral) , MOOLA (Vegetable) and JEEVA (Animal) respectively.
While Mesha is KROORA RAASI cruel Vrishabha is Soumya (AUSPICIOUS) , Mithuna Kroora, Kataka Soumya and all other Raasis are to be treated simultaneously in this method.
All Raasis from Mesha to Meena to be classified as VISHAMA and SAMA ( Odd and even ) respectively.
While Mesha is classified as in East Vrishabha is in South, Mithuna in West, Kataka in North, Simha in east, Kanya in South, Thula in West, Vrischika in North, Dhanus in East, Makara in South, Kumbha in West and Meena North Direction.
KALAPURUSHA’s left side limbs are represented from the 7th ,8th,9th, 10th. 11th, and 12th houses and other SIX houses are reckoned from LAGNA (ASCENDANT), represent right side limbs of KALAPURUSHA.
NOW MANTHRESWARA EXPLAINS ABOUT THE TWELVE HOUSES (द्वादश गृह) in a HOROSCOPE. :-
(a) The First House is known as LAGNA (ASCENDANT) . This is also known as HORA(होरा), KALYA (कल्या),
DEHA (देहा), UDAYA (उदया), ROOPA (रूपा), SHEERSHA (शीर्षा), VARTHAMAANA(वर्त्तामान), and JANMA (जन्म).

Friends, Generally people go to an astrologer to check up the marriage compatibility and Or when they are really in trouble. Astrologers are to check up properly the 7th and 8th Houses . Although I do not give predictions, I feel that if MARS is in 7th or 8th House there will be either DEATH, DIVORCE or the husband and wife will have to sray away from each other. I differ, in my opinion in this respect from PUNDITS in ASTROLOGY. Please check up whether other malefics are positioned in 7th or 8th House.

After this Manthreswara goes to the 9th House and tells us , what are all to be seen fron 9th house onwards up-to 12th House.

(i) The 9th Raasi from LAGNA deals with Preceptor (आचार्य), Deity (देवता), Father (पितृ), Auspicious events (शुभाकार्यं), luck during the past (पूर्वभाग्यं), Worship (पूजा), Penance(तपस्य), religious merit (सुकृत), Grandson (पौत्र), Prayer (जप) and Noble family or aristocracy (आर्यवंश).

Now Manthreswara explains about the 12th House. Generally Astrologers call this as MOKSHA STHANA or the Sign to be checked if any substantial LOSS is there. This is the HOUSE to be checked when one is in MISERY (दुःख), When something serious problem happens to leg (अंघ्रि), Left Eye ( वाम नयन). Loss or decline (क्षय), spy (सूचक), Death or Last time (अन्त्य), stuck with poverty (दारिद्रय), Sin (पाप), bed ridden (शयन) , bad expenditure (व्यय), Imprisonment (रिःप्ह). FRIENDS, THIS HOUSE IS CALLED VYAYA STHAANA ALSO).

For the subjects connected with 3rd, 6th, 8th, 12th houses are to be examined. They are called as CONCEALED OR HIDDEN HOUSES (लीन स्थानम्).

THE OVERAMBITION OF TAMIL NADU POLITICIANS FINDS NO BOUNDS

Friends,
Just now I saw a news item in which KARUNANIDHI , the ex-chief minister of Tamil Nadu, claiming Kerala’s PARAMBIKULAM and PEERAMEDU to be given to Tamil Nadu. I find the politicians of Tamil Nadu do not like to live in peace with their neighboring counter parts like KERALA, KARNATAKA and ANDHRA PRADESH. They have only problems with the neighboring states. When are we going to think that we are all INDIANS!
If these types of claims are made, then KERALA will ask for PARASURAMAKSHTHRA which is from KANYAKUMARI to GOKARNA. Will Karunanidhi agree to part with KANYAKUMARI DISTRICT? He will say that maximum people of Kanyakumari Dt. Speak TAMIL. The plate will be entirely changed.
I find fault with the CONGRESS for acceding to the demand of POTTI SRI RAMULU and their ambition to create linguistic states. Before independence in 1947, the Congress was committed to redrawing state boundaries to correspond with linguistics, which created this problem. INDIA should not have been divided on the basis of Language the people speak but should have been divided as per the area and Population. Now the linguistic states have been given which was a promise by Congress to the people, there is no point in my arguments. However, No further division of Kerala should be permitted. I request Government of India to add some more places from Tamil Nadu to KERALA. Barring Centrally administered places, KERALA is the smallest state in the SOUTH. The Indian Government should take a firm stand on this. I am also not for separate TELANGANA. However all backward portions of the states like TELANGANA should be developed.
Already TAMIL NADU and KERALA ,who are like mother and daughter, in logger heads due to MULLAPERIYAR. The WHITES by force took the permission from old Travancore state and constructed this dam. Why another problem?

SAURAMAANAM, CHAANDRAM, NAAKSHATHRAM,
SAAVANAM, AND BAARHASPATHYAM
____________________________________________________________________________________
Friends,
I had been explaining about APAHARA, CHHIDRA, SOOKSHMA AND PRAANA DASAS to the best of my knowledge and ability. There are FIVE types of MAANAAS. We have yet to know whether we are to use SAURAMAANA, SAAVANAMAANA, CHAANDRA MAANA ETC to calculate the DASAA SAMVATSARAS. There is a difference of opinion among the Pundits in Astrology and even among the traditional ACHARYAS who differ in their opinions on this subject. Before I go further, let us find out the types of Years as per Vedic Astrology:
Now it is time to say about Indian Astrology:
Time taken by the Planets to move in the Orbit
The Indian Astrological concept of Sun moving round the Earth and all planets referred around the Earth is called Geo-centric model. This concepualisation is needed to understand the fundamentals of Astrology thoroughly. The modern concept of Earth and all other planets are moving around the Sun is called Helios-centric model. In fact, this was made when there was no much advancement in science. It was based on visual method. As we see the trees houses move fast in opposite direction due to the speed when we travel in a train, the scientist of yore also thought that the Sun was moving round the earth.
All the planets (except the shadow planets) move forward. Rahu and Kethu are Shadowy Planets which move backward. Direction of movement is with reference to the tracking of planetary positions depicted in the form of a horoscope (two dimensional) on paper. Forward movement is clock-wise and backward movement is anti-clock-wise. Backward movement is also known as Vakra or Retrogression.
The Earth moves around the Sun completing one full revolution in 365.256374 days. [Earth rotates around its axis. For one such rotation (causing day and night) it takes 23 hours and 56 minutes. This will cause an observer on Earth to see Sun as rising in the East and setting in the West. Moon completes one revolution around the Earth in 27.32966 days. Duration of other planets for one revolution around the Sun is: Budha 87.969 days,Shukra 224.7 days, Bhouma 686.98 days, Guru 4332.585 days, Shani 10759.22 days. Shani is the slowest of the planets and has acquired the name Manda (very slow) and Sthira (permanent). Rahu and Kethu move backwards at the rate of one revolution in 6793.394774 days.
Positions of Planets
Each planet is at a different distance from the Sun and each is having its own orbit. The orbits or paths are elliptical say oval for simplicity. By observing the above picture, the possibility of different planets during their movement, lying scattered around the Earth can be visualised. For the purpose of Panchangam, the angular positions of all planets with Earth as centre are calculated for each day. Each planet’s angular speeds vary from day to day. The Angular Positions are expressed in Degrees, Minutes and Seconds. Degrees are also expressed as Rashis and Bhagas (each Rashi being equal to 30 degrees, each Bhaga being equal to one degree). These calculations are complex.
1. SAURAM (सौरं) : One year as per SAURAMAANA is , the time taken by SUN to go through all the 12 RAASIS from MESHA to MESHA which is 365 ¼ days.
The RAASIS are MESHA, VRISHABHA, MITHUNA, KARKKIDAKA, SIMHA, KANYA, THULA, VRISCHIKA, DHANUS, MAKARA, KUMBHA AND MEENA.
2. CHAANDRAM (चान्द्रमान) : This is from Prathama ( प्रथम) of the Full Moon (शुक्लपक्ष) to the end of New Moon (अमावास्य) . A Year consists of 354 Days only. The Months are:-
1. CHAITHRA (2) VAISHAAKHA (3) JYESHTA (4) ASHAADA (5) SHRAAVANA (6) BHAADRAPADA (7) ASVINA (8) KAARTIKA (9) MAARGASHEERSHA (1O) PAUSHA (11) MAAGHA (12) PHAALGUNA.
3. NAAKSHATHRAM (नाक्षत्र) : This is counted from ASINI NAKSHATHRA TO REVATHI NAKASHATHRA If it goes from Aswini to Revathi ones , it is called a month. But when all these nakashathras come one by one , 12 times it is NAAKSHATHRA MAANA which is 0nly 324 days. I am not aware other names of the months.

4. SAAVANA MAANA ( सावन मान) : One DAY is from the SUN RISE to the NEXT SUN RISE. Thus as per SAAVANA MAANA it contains 360 days. I am not aware of the names of the months. One Savana day is reckoned from Sunrise to next sun rise. 30 such Savana days are called one Savana month. 360 such daysor 12 SAVANA MONTHS are one Savana year

5. JUPITARIAN YEAR ( BARHASPATHYA ) (बार्हस्पत्य मान)

One Barhaspathya is time taken by Jupiter to traverse app.30 degrees of a sign. The duration is 361 days and a Jupiterian Cycle is roughly 12 years.
Savana Year. I am not aware of the names of the months.
.
These are the Panchavidha Samvatsara as per Vedic Astrology
“Each has its own significance in astrology. For mass regulation solar year is best suited. for day today affairs lunar year should be adopted. For shanti nakshatra year is adopted . For political forecast brahaspatya is used, forBirthdays, longevity, dasasvrata, niyama, yagna,Savana year is used.”
Friends,
There is one more which the VAISHNAVATES use. They call the 12 months for a GAURAABDA. Gaurabda is the name of moon calendar used by Gaudiya as part of the liturgy
I am giving for the information of all the names of the months of GAURAABDA:-
NAMES OF DEITIES AND MONTHS
Following Gaudiya Vaisnava tradition, the years are counted from the appearance of Krishna's incarnation as Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Lord Chaitanya is also known as Gaura, so the year is called "Gaurabda," "the year of Lord Caitanya."( गौर + अब्द = गौराब्द)
Each month, or "मास," is known by a name of Lord Vishnu. The months, the Sanskrit names by which they are commonly known in India, and their rough equivalents according to the Gregorian calendar are listed as follows:
DIETY’s NAME MONTH APP. ENGLISH MONTHS
KESHAVA ……………. MARGASHIRA( AGRAHAYANA) NOV. – DEC.
NARAYANA…………...PAUSHA DEC. – JAN.
MADHAVA…………… MAGHA JAN. – FEB.

=========
This is as per INDIAN ASTROLOGY
The Owner of the STAR in which one is born is the 1st Dasa of the person.
The Balance Dasa OR GARBHA shishta Dasa is calculated by finding out the balance of NAZHIKAS AND VINAZHIKAS (GHATIS AND VIGHATIS) and by multiplying it by the total number of years of that dasa and afterwards divide it by 60 you can get the Years and balance, if any, may be multiplied by 12 and then divide by 60, you can get the months and further balance, if any, may be multiplied by 30 and then divided by 60, you can get the days.
For the layman’s purpose 1 NAZHIKA OR GHATI = 24 Minutes
1 VINAZHIKA OR VIGHATI = 24 Seconds

Friends, when I was about 5 Years we had a book called GUNAKOSHTAM in which the constellations and their KOORU or JANMA RAASIS were given. I remember I have learnt the Raasis with the stars when I was a child of 6 years. Now the entire curriculum is changed as Lord Alfred Tennyson said “OLD ORDER CHANGETH YIELDING PLACE TO NEW”.
After dealing with CONSTELLATIONS AND STARTING DASAS and the Stars which will have the Starting Dasa period etc. and PURSHAYUS which is considered by Hindu Astrologers as 120 Years, How to find out the Garbha Shishta Dasa , I am going to narrate about the calculation of APAHAARA or BHUKTHI Period of each planet. Please note that the Bhukthi period will be less or more as per each Dasa’s period. I am giving hereunder the relevant Sanskrit Sloka and then the meaning in English.
“ ll दशा दशाहता कार्या दशभिर्भागमाहरेत्
लब्धाङ्गाश्च भवेन्मासास्त्रिंशद्घ्ने च दिनानिच ll “
Meaning : if the Dasa period of a dasa is multiplied with the Bhukthi period of the bhukthi and divided by 10 the whole number be treated as the total period of the Apahara in months and the balance if multiplied by 30 and then divided by 10 the resultant will be total days.
As an example , Suppose we have to find out the Apahara period of Jupiter in Sun’s dasa :- The total period of Sun’s das is = 6 years
Jupiter’s total Dasa period is = 16 years
Multiplying both we get = 96
By dividing this with 10 = 9 Months and balance 6
This balance 6 is to be multiplied by 30 and then divided by 10 we get = (6x30)/10=18 Days Total period of GURU’s APAHARA is 9 months and 18 days.
Pleasae note that each DASA has 9 Apaharas and the first Apahara is always The Dasa of which we are finding out the APAHARA PERIOD ( In Sanskrit we call it as “ll स्वापहार ll “)
The MOON’s 1st aphara is MOON only (स्वापहार), the next will be the next DASA i.e. MARS
I shall deal with UPA BHUKTHI or CHCHHIDRA (छिद्र)
I am giving herein about CCHIDRAM or Upa Bhukthi calculation. As in the case of APAHARA for each Dasa, these Apaharas also can be divided into UPA BHUKTHI or CCHIDRA. Each Bhukthi has nine upabhukthi or CCHIDRA. CCHIDRA also starts first from the APAHARA for which the CCHIDRA is to be calculated.
How to find the CCHIDRA period is given in the following Verse :-
“ ll त्रिगुणितमूलदशाबदा –
दपहाराधिपसमातादर्दधं
छिद्राधिपाब्दनिहतं
‘ नीति ’ विभक्तम् दिनंभवति ll “
MEANING : Multiply With 3 the Dasa of the person , then again multiply with the APAHARA’S No. of years. Then take the half of the resultant and again multiply this half with the CCHIDRA’S LORD’S No. of years The resultant will be the CCHIDRA period in NAZHIKAS. If you divide this with 60 you can get the CCHIDRA PERIOD in DAYS.
EXAMPLE : Suppose you want to know the period of CCHIDRA of RAVI DASA/GURU BHUKTHI/SANI’S CCHIDRA.
RAVI DASA PERIOD (TOTAL) .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. 6 YEARS
MULTIPLY THIS WITH 3..You will get .. .. .. .. 18
Now multiply this with the number of years of APAHARA (GURU) i.e 16 years.
Youy will get 18 x 16 = 288 Now half of the resultant is = 288/2 = 144
Multiply this 144 with SANI’S No. of years which is 19 Years = 144x19 = 2736 This is the NAZHIKA
To make it days divide this Nazhika by 60. You will get .. .. ..2736/60 = 45.6 DAYS if you divide this by 30 you can get .. … ….45. 6/30 = 1 month 15 days and 36 Nazhika
Hence CCHIDRA PERIOD IN MONTH DAYS AND BALANCE NAZHIKA IS 1 month 15 days & 36 Nazhikas.
In my next m I shall deal with SOOKSHMA DASA in my next.
Friends , CCHIDRA IS ALSO KNOWN AS ANTHARA
Now I shall deal with How to calculate “ SOOKSHMA DASA “
As in APAHARA and CCHIDRA { ( अपहार (भुक्ति) , छिद्र (उपभुक्ति or अन्दर) ) } the first SOOKSHMA DASA (सूक्ष्मा दश) is the Dasa of the Lord of CCHIDRA. In this , I am giving below the Sanskrit version of how to calculate SOOKSHMA DASA :-
“ ll स्वान्तरोक्तघाटीवृन्दं हतं स्वाब्दग्रहेण च
विंशोत्तरशतेनाप्तं लिप्ताशेषं कलादिकं ll “
MEANING : In whichever CCHIDRA Period one wants to find the SOOKSHMA DASA (सूक्ष्मदशा), please convert the months and days into NASHIKA or GHATIS (घटि) and then multiply it with the number of years of the Dasa and then divide the resultant with 120. Here you will get the whole number and balance. The whole number may be treated as GHATIS and balance is to be again multiplied by 60 which if divided by 120 one can also get a whole number which may be treated as vighatis and if there is any balance this may be also multiplied by 60 as told above if divided by 120 one can get THATPARA *
*60 Thatparas make one VINAZHIKA

Example : Suppose you want to find out the SOOKSHMA DASA of a person running KUJA DASA/SANI APAHARA/BUDHA CHIDRA :-
CHHIDRA OR ANDARA AS per the calculations told will be 3391 ½. Please multiply the same with the SOOKSMA NATHA’S No. of years i.e. 17. You will get 57655 ½. Divide this with 120 (PURUSHAYUS). You will get 480 and Balance 55 ½. 480 is NAZHIKAS.This balance 55 ½ is to be multiplied by 60. You will get 3330 and divide this by 120. You will get 27 and balance 90. The whole number 27 is Vinazhikas and balance 90 is again to be multiplied again by 60. You will get 5400. Divide this 5400 by 120 and you will get 45 this is Thathpara. Hence the Sooksma Dasa = 480 Nazhikas 27 Vinazhikas and 45 Thathparas.
In my next I shall deal with PRAANA DASA ( प्राण दश )
PRANA DASA :
“ ll स्व सुक्ष्मदशायाश्च पिण्डे विघटिकात्मके
स्वाब्दैर्हते पुनस्तष्टे विंशोत्तर शतेन च l
लब्धं विघटिका ज्ञेया विफलानि ततः परं ll “
MEANING: If we convert SOOKSHMA DASA TIME into VINAAZHIKA and multiply with the DASA YEARS and divide it with 120 we will get the vinaazhikaas of PRAANA DASAA TIME. If we get some THATHPARAS it should not be considered. (If required we may also consider making THATHPARAS by multiplying it with 60 and dividing it by 120.)
EXAMPLE: Suppose we want to find out the PRAANA DASAA period of KETHU in Kuja Dasa/Sani Apahara/Budha’s Andara/Budha’s Sookshma Dasa . As per the values given before the SOOKSHMA DASA period is, 480 Nazhikas 27 Vinazhikas and 45 Thathparas . If we convert it to Vinazhikas we will get 28827 ¾. Multiply this with Kethu’s Dasa period 7 and you will get 2 01794 ¼. If you divide it by 120 you will get 1681 and balance 74 ¼. In this 1681 is Vinazhika and balance 74 ¼ if multiplied with 60 you will get 4455. Divide this by 120 You will get 37 and balance 18’ If the balance 15 is multiplied with 60, you will get 900 . Divide this 900 by 120. You will get 7 ½. This is callked PRATHATHPARA (प्रतत्पर) . Hence the PRAANA KAALA of Kethu is 1681Vinazhikas i.e 28 Nazhikas 1 Vinazhika 37 Thathparas and 7 ½ Prathathparas.
Friends, All Dasas, Bhukthis, Chhidras , Sookshmas and Pranas start from the Dasa of the birth and all 9 Dasas come one after the other. Example Suppose a person is born on Mrigasira Nakshathra. His starting Dasa is KUJA and the next dasa will be RAAHU and so on upto Shukra, Sun and Moon.
In my next I shall tell about SOURAMAANA, SAAVANA, CHAANDRA, NAAKSHATHRA, BAARHASPATHYA since the astrologers of KERALA and from other places have different views.
